Walking through the gun show today and saw this beauty for less than half what I normally see them going for - needs a main spring but that's it!  All there, all the markings clear as a bell, locks up tight, grips are perfect but changing to a chocolate brown color, and decent suction in 1873 Winchester caliber. Third model double action.  Take a look:

Has an intertesting three letter mark that looks like H.E. R. - anybody got any ideas about that one?

Thanks for looking!

A guy over at the SASS wire was able to research that "HER" was for Hal Roach Studios so this Merwin is a movie/tv prop gun.  How cool is that?

Rick,

I got it off of ebay - probably had an 1873 Colt in it at some point based on the impressions in the leather but it fits the Merwin just fine.

Nice looking Lightning!

Howdy

You done real good. Love that long barrel combined with the skull crusher grip. I'd love to have an original MH. Haven't come across one that I could afford yet, except for one that was a real beater.
That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!

Zip:  That a real beauty-- great find!

I once saw one of the pocket models (3rd or 4th, I don't recall but it had the topstrap) in .38 S&W at a gun show.  That one had FOUR barrels and came complete with a leather-covered, felt-lined box.  Cost was a bit out of my price range at $7000.

Those are great old guns.
