Hello, I am interested in making my SASS persona in the late west period. I have seen quite a bit of people do the soldier loadouts from the Pershing Expedition for their Wild Bunch shooting rigs, however what did your western lawman wear? I'm sure many still carried single action pistols, so what type of belt would they have worn by then?

Thanks

St. George

SASS's time frame generally runs up to 1899.

Wild Bunch matches are but an off-shoot of the larger picture - celebrating a cult movie - with little resemblance to the reality of the times.

If you take a good look through the 'back pages' of this forum - you'll see many, many threads dealing with what was 'actually' worn at the time - but no 'B Western stuff.

If you want to make a run to your local Public Library - go check out the 'Time-Life' series titled 'The Old West'.

There are numerous good photos there, so read 'em all - but read 'The Gunfighters' and 'The Cowboys' first.

Also - a look at any of the pre-1900 'Sears, Roebuck & Co.' and 'Montgomery Wards' reprint catalogs is time well spent, since they show precisely what was available during the era.

Granted, the illustrations aren't as clear as modern digital photography - but you'll get the idea quick enough.

Those reprints can be found at your Library and sometimes at Barnes & Noble's - and some used book stores will have copies, as well.

Good Luck!
