This Smith & Wesson New Model Number 3 Australian revolver having serial number 12498 is .44 Russian caliber; 7-inch barrel. This revolver is complete with a leather holster, detachable shoulder stock and leather carrying case for the stock. All four items are proofed with the broad arrow from the Australian Ordnance Department...only 250 were ordered from Smith & Wesson! The leather was ordered from another manufacturer and numbered for inventory control, but not numbered to the guns. These guns were issued, used, and when encountered today are most often-missing original parts and accessories that completed the set. The guns and stocks were interchangeable; this stock is serial number 12437. The gun retains about 95% original nickel finish on the frame, 75% on the cylinder, and 25% on the barrel. The tip of the butt plate is sans a quarter inch section. The leather holster is numbered 66, the holster for he stock is numbered 138.

Price: $7,500

Too Bad that Uberti couldn't copy that and retrofit it to any Schofield they made ... I have always thought that, with the seven inch barrel, a stock would have been a worthwhile acessory ..... I would imagine that the weapon would have to be made with a special backstrap to have connections to fit the stock ....
My moniker is my great grandfather's name. He served with the 2nd Florida Mounted Regiment in the Civil War. Afterward, he came home, packed his wife into a wagon, and was one of the first NorteAmericanos on the Frio River southwest of San Antonio ..... Kinda where present day Dilley is ...

Glad you folks enjoyed it. I know the gun was cool, but I posted it here in
the leather forum because of the holster. I thought the flap was unusual. Take care pards.

Happy Year all

SS would mind posting a pic with the revolver in the holster, if you have one. I find the flaps very interesting.

Thanks Dave

My WAG is that the double flap is to allow holstering with the buttstock assembled

Dave 54....I don't have a photo with the gun in the holster, but I believe
