About to get a Walker...

I think I found one for just the right price.

Been meaning to pick one up...have read many posts...I think it will fit my paws just fine. (handled the one at the store...seamed to be OK)

Comments? Suggestions?

help with a starting load and cap size would be appreciated. (Its an Uberti)

It's the ultimate firearm, bar none.  I use 40 grains of ff, a .457 ball, and a Remington #10, they are tight, but they don't tend to fly off.  If you go above the 40 grains, the lever will come into play, and the 40 is enough to reset most miss counters.  Like they say, "Counting, was I counting?"

Go for it. I just got done shooting the North Carolina State Match, Uprising At Swearing Creek, with a pair of Walkers. By the time I got to the tenth shot of each stage I felt like I holding an anvil, but I bet I had more fun than anybody there. I came in second place in the Frontiersman class. Last year I came in first place with the Walkers. I shot 50 grains of FFg with a wonder wad and a .457 ball and #11 caps. I did not have one single problem and the loading levers never fell. All 100 shots went off like they should and I only had 2 misses with them.

They are fun but are not a well designed handgun.  Way too front heavy.  There was a reason only 1100 were ever made and the Dragoon came out a year later.

Having said that, heck yeah get one.  Nothing like dragging out 9 inches of barrel on a stage and go to blasting away!  You WILL get max style points.  Mine was dropping the loading lever at a bit over 40 grains but I worked on it a bit with a dremel tool and now its fine up to around 50gr.  Thats plenty of power anyway.

I would suggest you get some Treso nipples and ditch the manufacturers nipples. The Treso's are much more uniform and you will get less cap debris.

Should I be using .451, .454, or .457 balls?
(I got a box of .451 on sale, but, I can always melt them down for use with "other" moulds)

My walker is manufactured by uberti.
