Well, gun deer season has finally arrived here in Wisconsin, and I'll be heading out next week with my Cimarron Uberti 1876 rifle for at least a few days. I'm leaving the 45/60 at home and just taking the 45/75. Hopefully I'll be able to post a pic or two of a nice whitetail harvested with it. Wish me luck, and good luck to all the hunters getting out this fall with the BP weapons!

Good Luck to you D.B.  Because of health reasons I won't be able to go out this year.  First time in 40 years.  I probably won't have any venison this year.

Sorry to hear that Will. I've been trampling around the woods for 42 years now(I think), and I don't go nearly as far as I used to. Got a few health problems here myself, but fortunately I can still get out hunting deer. Thank God all my sons hunt with me, so I get to sit out a lot of the hard work during hunting. I would think (and hope) there would be someone in your area that wouldn't mind sharing some venison if they are successful.  ;)

Dick - I know you hunt too, so best of luck to you this year.

well, unfortunately I saw one tail during the season - never fired a shot with my '76. Anyone else have a successful year? We got 4 deer out of six people, but no thanks to me :)

I had the shortest season of all my 40 yrs in the woods at Boulder Junction Wi. this yr. At 0800 on opening Day a nice 4 pointer walked my way. I was finished hunting at 1000 AM. It's bucks only in northern Wis this year. Took him with my 1895 Marlin 45/70, cica 1973w/straght stock, and handloads.

Way to go RD - I like short seasons!  ;D

That 45/70 Marlin is a fine rifle - I shoot one myself. We had doe tags available down in Clark Co., but could have saved the $$ as it turned out - Well, maybe next year......congrats on the 4 pointer!

Thanks DB
I hope he tatses as good as he looked.

Weather changed a week ago last Saturday (for the worse) for my opening day...deer were hard to find, but I rustled up a couple..one a rather young buck the, other a 10 or 12 point....haven't measured the little brow tines yet. Good sized deer, but kinda light rack. We're limited in our weapon selections, so I used my modern shotgun. I'll remember the poor weather..better than the guys out this past weekend got tho.

Yahoo..We can continue to eat @ the Slim ranch!  ;D

Regards & good hunting!
