I have a Navy Arms "Shooters model" from the mid 1980's the cylinder has narrow slots on the cylinder compared to todays piettas. Did Kirst originally sell the converters with a narrower slot, and if so does anyone have a lead on a used one from then? I really love this gun and it shoots great, but I want to be able to shoot .45's also. Of course with the times as they are, money is tight, but I would consider a trade of a slightly used uberti 1851 navy from cimarron arms for one in great shape.

thanx,

To use the wider slot cylinder you need only change out the bolt.  You could fit a new bolt, and swap that part out with the original to shoot cap & ball with the older cylinder, or get a newer cap & ball cylinder that will fit the new bolt.

Check with Jay "Raven"  jayandkara@yahoo.com ( he's Walter Kirst's machinist )

We just got one for an older Pietta .....but not as old as the 80's  ( the one we fitted was 1997 or so )

Flint is correct That said, I believe the Base pin on new Pietta's is slightly larger in Dia. as well.

Hi Coyote Hunter,

As Flint mentioned you will need to change the bolt out to get a tight lock up.

If you can get me a couple of measurments I can probably help you out. I need the diameter of the cylinder and the overall length in thousanths and the diameter of the arbor pin.

I would be willing to trade a "2nd" in very good condition for your Uberti

Sorry I haven't been back on to respond to the answers, deer season started here in Kentucky  :D

Raven, I'll contact you and see what we can do, is it possible I could send the gun to you for a fit, and the uberti would be the payment. Also, is this one with the loading gate?

Thanks

Thanks, Raven, and thanks Nix for the recommendation. It's nice to know one can still barter when the cash flow is low. I'll be using it for my Circuit Rider Living History I do for some local churches.

I'll ship it UPS Raven,

Thanks and God Bless,
