Beveler Angle

I mentioned this in the Sheridan tool thread, but I thought I might get more response in a separate thread. I've bee using a Barry King beveler, actually a set of three, just different widths, for about a year now. They are pretty steep, but they do a great job.

Using a Craftool 198 today, the shallow angle, compared to the BK was messing with me. It seems like so many of the Craftool belevers have a very shallow angle, but maybe that's just compared to the BK I'm used to.

Do anyone have a recommendation for a belever that's somewhere in between a shallow Craftool and a practically straight up & down Barry King? When you look at catalogs they give you the footprint but don't necessarily address the angle, at least that I can tell.

I understand tipping the tool, but I'd still like something in between.

Thanks, JD

with everything i have seen and used (which is not as much as the great artists on this forum) its either the angle of craftool or the barry king bevelers.
i think you would have to make your own beveler angle for this. i suggest you use a crafttol as they are the cheapest to modify.

i prefer the barry king angle over crafttool. i get a much cleaner bevel using bk then crafttools. they are too shallow for me.

i pretty much use all barry king bevelers now.

Thanks for that info Leon. I wish now that I had tried a variety of the bevelers Chan had the last time he was there. I don't know if all of Barry's beveler are the same angle or not. On the way home from lunch I was thinking about modifying a craft tool on the grinder. The problem is getting those criss cross lines.

Hopefully over the next few days some other guys will share some of their experiences here.
