Hi all
Just got a great deal on a 29-4 with stand that looks to be in good condition. I know that this is a great machine by what I have read here on the leather shop. I have been hand stiching for years, time to give my poor hands a rest.

Here is what I don't know

Can I use 5-7 cord theard Right or left twist? I have large spools of each now
What type of oil for the theard oiler
What type of neddles will I need for leather holsters and belts with lining? 7-8 oz there a re soooo many???
Should I get the hand nob install?  There a guy in Ohio that is doing that.

Any tip would be greatly appreciated

Thanks advance for you're help Dave54

Dave,

What you have there is a shoe patch machine.  It is designed so that the presser foot can rotate 360....this is so you can put a boot onto the arm and still be able to sew in different directions. I think it is only designed to take size 69 or 92 thread and not the larger 207 or 277 that are used in saddle stitchers.  Go to the Singer web site and download the free operating manual for this machine....also  Artisan, Ferdco, and several other still make this style machine...any questions you have can be answered by the service people at either of those companies or Steve at Cobra machines.

I just went into the Ferdco site...their machine is the 29-73 and it will sew up to 5/16" thickness and uses 69,92,99, and 138 thread sizes.

If you are sewing regular holster main seams that utilize 207 or 277 thread this machine will not do the job for you.
