Driftwood You never cease to amaze me. If you are referring to the loads that I suggested to Four Fingers then they are a long way from becoming mouse fart loads. 36 grs of Swiss 2F behind a 210 custom bullet or 33 grs of Goex Cartridge. Why not try them out. I shot USFA's by Long Hunter in 45 Colt with 34 grs of 2F and the PRS bullet so I have shooting time with both. I will say that neither one out does the other when loaded to Warthog levels. Take Care

I don't seem to suffer from knucle whack so much, but my trigger finger is getting a piece ripped out of it with the warthog loads. The Colt sized trigger guard just plain ol' ain't big enough, which is a shame because I really love the old style six guns.
All my cowboy gun's calibres start with a 4! It's gotta be big bore and whomp some!

Maybe get a 45ACP trim Die and trim some colt cases to Cowboy length and try those. If they work out I will import some 45 Cowboy cases. That will take me a couple of years :D
The Cowboy 45 Special is a great case for SASS. I use the 150gr EPP Big Lube with 19gr (1.2cc) of 3f  Schutzen and 1/16'' compression. For the 44/40 I use the 200gr Big Lube with 31gr (2.0cc) of 2f  Schutzen and 1/16'' compression. This is a dandy combination for SASS. Good Luck.

Yeap, I use full loads in my Uberties 44-40s. 38gr Goex FFF compressed with a compression die to like original factory loads. 200gr Mav bullets. Acuracy is enough to hit a man's chest at 50 feet.  Kicks like a mule and I love it. 916fps @381ft/lbs of enery

Here is a video of a Springfield MDx 40S&W recoil vs my Uberti 45 Colt with full 38gr black powder loads. 1.5" to 2" groups at 50ft. Notice the 40 kicks back and twists to the left wile the colt kicks slight twist and up. 1082fps@649ft/lbs of energy. 250gr 454190 bullets

Howdy Again

I suppose I should have put a smiley face on that comment, because I was just funnin' when I said it. I do believe that a full case of BP behind a 200 grain bullet in the 44-40 case will recoil slightly less than a full case of BP behind a 250 grain bullet, all other things being the same.

Sorry, I can't try it out for you, I don't own any 44-40 pistols. Only rifles. Other than occasionally fooling around and firing a 44-40 out of a 45 Colt pistol, I have very little actual experience shooting 44-40 pistols.

Boy did I get in trouble with that over on the Ruger forum. They were all convinced I was gonna blow up one of my Colts.
That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!
