Some time ago a kind soul emiled me these patterns, but I have no memory of who. I'm hoping that by posting pictures someone wll be able to identify them and maybe, just maybe have some finished pictures show up.

Thanks again, JD

I'm pretty sure it's not either of them Rick. I like'm too. I'm trying to figure out how to carve it without any pictures of what it should look like. I'm not that artistic, but then I guess we'll see!

I'm bumping this back to the top, because someone on this forum very kindly sent me these 3 drawings month ago; two of holsters and one of a matching sheath. I would sure like to know who sent them, plus a little more about them.

HELP!

Not a clue who drew them JD, but i gots an idea.

If you purchased the how to sherdian carving book by Chan Geer, you could adapt these flower designs to sherdian style.
Chan's book should give you pointers on doing that.

they would look great sheridan style.

JD - do I see the name 'Sandy' at the bottom of a message or am I nuttier than usual?

Also, the message mentions sending the pattern to Chuck Burrows. It also says the the pattern was for a holster for (possibly) 'Dan Mink'. There is a Florida knife maker of that name....

JD Alan

Thanks for the idea Leon.

Skeet, I saw Sandy as well, but I don't believe it's Sandy from WC's. I would imagine Cuck gets sent lots of stuff, but I appreciate the knife maker info. I'd like to know if anyone ever used this pattern to actually make a holster.

I drew one out and carved it, but I'm not very happy with the results. Even wih WC's one on one coaching I've got a long ways to go in the carving department.

I do appreciate both responses.

Could that Sandy be Sandy Morrissey? Sandy does some out of this world work and is friends with Chuck, don't know if Sandy is on this forum or not.

Thanks for that name Cliff. I went looking for pictures of his work, but nothing I saw was anywhere close to this stuff. He does excellent work though. He doesn't have a web address I could find, but his snail mail is listed.

I appreciate the effort!

I'm not even sure if Sandy has a web site but I think I have his # somewhere. He does visit some of the knife forums and such from time to time. If I talk to him I could ask him to take a look here to see if he knew any thing about it.

PM Chuck, when he logs on he may be able to tell you.

Hey Rick, I have a holster for a 9 1/2 inch single six.

Looks to me like Sandy Morrisey sent some patterns to Dave Cole and Dave sent them to JD - that style carving is typical of Sandy's work - that noet signed SAndy starts out with Dave.

Here's some pics of Sandy's work - FYI Sandy is in his late 80's and still going strong -

This should be the 6.5" Ruger holster from the pattern above - this one is in my collection......

I'd bet this is the finished holster for the 9.5" Ruger in the first pattern  image

Here's Sandy in 1946 on his new Knucklehead, on his way from Florida to San Francisco to study leather craft under the GI Bill

And here he is in June 2007 along with some ugly fat dude with long braids - wonder how he snuck in there??????????  ;)

Re-read Sandy's note in image one and he does mention me and the holster I made using his carving pattern which is based on the circa 1920 styles coming out of Texas like SD Myres.
I'd post a pic of it but can't find it.........

WOW!!! I can't thank all of you enough. First to Sandy who did the work, then Chuck, then Dave, then Cliff, then; well shoot, let's thank everyone. What incredible work, and what an inspiration. Now I have something to look at while attempting to work with those patterns

And he rode a Harley to boot, my kind of guy. Chuck, while I was at WC's shop they took some pictures of an old white haired guy sitting with WC, but I have no idea who he is either. I feel your pain brother!

There have been so many here who have shared patterns and skills and time with me, and I'm sure countless others; what a great group.

I thought it was him just didn't want to say for sure. For anyone who hasn't met him Sandy is a fine fellow. He comes and visits with me at my table at the Blade show each year.

It was a real inspiration for me when he actually came looking for me the first time after seeing my work on the forums. Especially someone of his talent versus me who has mostly just piddled with leathercraft off and on until recent years.
