Bass Pro Shops Black Friday Ad
« on: November 23, 2010, 03:53:19 PM »
Bass Pro Shops has advertised a Uberti Cattleman Convertible that will be for sale the day after Thanksgiving, a .45LC with a 4.75 in. barrel, and comes with an extra cylinder for .45 ACP. The pic they showed with the ad had a 5.5 in. barrel. I asked one of the guys at the gun counter, and he said he thought they'd have both barrel lengths, but wasn't sure since they hadn't gotten their shipment in yet. The advertised price is $499.99. It's in the Holiday Outfitter ad with sale dates of Nov 25-Dec 5.

Sound like a deal to y'all?
I really don't know...I'm looking to buy my VERY FIRST gun.

That's a reasonable price, but not a barn burner.  If you don't need the extra cylinder you can purchase a basic Model P clone from EMF (www.emf-company.com) for $399.  You can purchase various other models such as the 1875 Remington for $450.

Another source at similar prices is Taylors and Company.

All of these basic guns will likely need action work, so that will add probably another $100.  You can buy guns with the action tuning, improved springs and sights, etc. from any of these manufacturers.  Prices start at about $600 for those.  You can also go to Long Hunter (www.longhunt.com) and purchase pre-tuned guns from Ruger, Taylors or USFA (my personal favorite - made 100% in the USA) starting at about at anywhere from $610 to $625, depending on the manufacturer.  Long Hunter is a really nice guy that produces quality products.  You can't go wrong doing business with him.

If your budget allows, you'll be much happier with a quality gun with the action work already done.

I saw that and I'm not sure what the idea of the extra cylinder is, especially if a person wants the gun for CAS. The money would be better spent on the action.

I think the idea of having a dual cylinder .45 was originally Ruger's. Back when surplus .45 ACP was way cheaper than .45Colt ammo it made more sense.

New .45acp ammo is much, much cheaper and more readily available than new .45 colt ammo.

The dual cylinder is okay in a Blackhawk, except that I have the .357/9 mm set up. It works fine, but as expected, the 9 MM isn't anything to write home about in the accuracy department. Different bullet sizes .355 9 MM/ .357-358. Couple of thousanths of an inch can make all the difference in the world.
The first step of becoming a good shooter is knowing which end the bullet comes out of and being on the other end.

I nearly bought the Ruger when .45 ACP was 5 cents a round surplus.
