This afternoon at my Local Portland Tandy I was introduced to a customer who offered to sell me the stitching horse pictured below. The lady's husband passed away about 15 months ago, and she finally began to clean out some of his stuff.

This looks to be a combo of home made and factory parts. The head of this thing pivots 360 degrees, and the jaws open very wide. It has a foot activated jaw lock, and overall is in very good shape.

I'll hold off saying what I paid for it, to get some thoughts on what it might be worth. You won't hurt my feelings with your comments!

Hey I like that JD!
It looks like some thought went into it as far as tool holders, rotating head, etc.
Pretty good find.
I found one at a shop this weekend myself, although I havent gotten it yet. Its an old one, but the price is real good.

Real nice JD.
Mine I bought at a antique type plazza and probably paid way too much for.  $200.00 Then had to make a new clamp for it.
I noticed yours is slanted to the right.  Is there a reason one would be slanted right or left?

Very good find, JD. That's a dead ringer for the one I have. The pivoting head is nice to have. The tool holders are a plus, too. The coolest thing about it is the holder for the beeswax. It's right where you need it.

Marshall, the lady didn't know a thing about it, other than her husband got it in the mail and put it together. Is there a brand name? Maybe you could address Johnny's question about the slanted jaw. Everyone I've seen has that feature, but I don't know why either. Thanks, JD

If you haven't already grab it up. I just paid 180.00 for a new one from weaver brand.
The seat has a crack running the length of it.
The clamp head doesn't pivot either. I'd love to have a pivot clamp on mine.
I may work one out in the future.
Lucky sot!

nice find JD,

doesnt matter what u paid for it. i bet the lady you got it from was happy that it would still get used as what it was made for.

as far as tilting to the right it may have something to do with making it easier to do stitching for a right handed person.

dad and i are building one like the one you posted pics of. i found the pattern for it in the back of the how to hand sew book from tandy leather factory

JD, I don't know any more about it. I got it from a guy who got it from a friend who made it, I assume from the same place that manufactured yours. It's a great design.

It seems to function very well, and I bought it for fifty bucks, so I don't think I got hurt.
