I recently picked up an original 3-band 1871 Remington rolling block (50-70), 36" muzzle to breach, that was issued to the 65th New York.  It doesn't have a cleaning  rod, and I'm told reproductions are available (somebody on GunBroker is selling a 34" original rod for ~$200 - a bit out of my range).  Can anyone suggest where I could start looking?

While I'm at it, I'd also like to have a new sling made (I have the original), and get some new swivels.

I didn't look in my catalogs, but did you try S&S Firearms?  Also, Dixie Gun Works might have one.

Is that rifle a New York State or Navy?

New York State or Navy?   ???   As I said, it was issued to the 65th NY.  The person I bought it from said, from his research, it was probably used in a couple of riots.

On which side?  :P  Those NY State Rolling Blocks are neat.  They have the automatic safety, where the hammer automatically drops into the safety notch when the breech is closed.  Not sure why I sold both a carbine and a rifle...years ago.  Dumb!

Well, I *might* have found a cleaning rod at S&S.  Thanks, Trailrider!  I downloaded their catalog and placed an online order; I guess I have to wait until morning for them to confirm they actually have one in stock.  It's a repro, though, so it *should* be available.

I love my NYS roller. Been contemplating using it in Texas in November if I can get away.
