Thuer Cartridge Loader - why not?

Seems like a really neat predecessor to the Lee Loader.

So why hasn't some enterprising small concern made up some of these for the shooting market?


I could see them going over well in .44 Russian, .45 Schofield, .45LC/.450 Colt, etc?

A real one went at auction for $20k.

I once used an 1860 Army revolver (less cylinder) to seat some bullets in 45 LC shells I wanted to try in the field.

Walt Kirst and I have been working on producing Thuer converters and the loading tools that go with them for a while now. The rings are currently in production at our CNC shop.
So- we have spent a fair amount of time working on the loading tools.

What you propose is problematic for several reasons.
1st being the modifications needed to load rimmed cases
and secondly they would be expensive. The standard Thuer loading tools produced in quantities less than 50 would retail for approxamatly $250 per set.
3rd they would only be usefull in conversions that retained the original loading lever.
Last the loading lever must be modified to use the tools.

It would be much less expensive to aquire original Belding and Mull reloading tools and even less so to buy a Lee loader set which could easily be modified to have that "old timey" look.

No need for you to apologize, not a drop's fallen on me.

While the prerequisites are blatantly obvious, I just like tossing ideas out there and seeing how imaginative folks can be at overcoming all those obstacles.
