Hi - I have a working (shooting) Evans carbine chambered for .44 Evans short, with a new-model action (e.g., 24 - round magazine, same as .44 Evans Long/new model).  I'm looking for $1200 + shipping. 'Bought it for my wife, and she doesn't like shooting it  :-\. I'll throw in bullets or ammo if interested.

Please email me offline if interested, and I'll send photos. beadswinger@gmail.com

What are you using for ammo?  That .44 Evans Short looks to be very similar to a .44 Henry Centerfire, but that heel bullet thing throws me.  So does the basic cartridge for that matter.  Do you shoot it in SASS matches?

Hi -
I have both, and have shot both for CAS. It's faster than a Spencer, but still a bit slower than a Henry/Winchester.  But it is LOTS of fun.

For Evans short, I was use .44 Mag cases and a 295 gr .421 long-nosed bullet.  This doesn't leave much room for powder, but it is plenty for CAS.  Unfortunately, Evans short properly sized don't cycle that well through an Evans Long.  The new shell has a tendency to fall out as you cycle, so you have to be careful (did I say slow?).  My solution so far to avoid this is to set the ball high, so that two rings stick out (like for Evans long). These longer rounds cycle better, and since the bullets are .421, they go right into the chamber quite nicely.

For Evans long, I use .44 Mag cases or .445 Supermag from Buffalo Arms. Again, the same 295 gr. long-nosed bullet. Those take about 25-26 gr of FFg and shoot very well.  For the .44 mag, most of the bullet is sticking out of the case (two of four rings), but they chamber very well.

I gave Two Flints a short video of my wife trying to shoot this Carbine - he could post it if he wanted to...  8)

Here it is ;D ;D ;D ;D

A work in progress.

Very cool.  My Whitney-Kennedy (a refinish job) garnered me some funny looks with at first.  I was at a historical re-enactment with it last month, and I kept getting asked what kind of Winchester is it.

I think most everyone I shoot with knows I like the weirder things in life.

Two Flints - Thanks for posting the video ::)

For list members, I'll throw in 50 rounds of .44 Evans short, chambered for the gun. :)  You just pay the add'l shipping. :-\

Also, for list members, I routinely cast LOTs of these 295 gr .421 bullets, and i really don't mind sourcing them for Evans shooters. 8)

Hi Bead Swinger,

Thanks for sending me the video, which I posted for you.

I have to pass on the Evans >:( >:(  It was either buying your Evans or my wife's new kitchen cabinets.  It wasn't a hard choice for my wife to make :'( :'( :'(

I love the smile on her face when she hit the target on that last round.
