Although I realize this was a posed picture from the days of the old west, I dare say any man who would fire a cap-n-ball revolver holding it in such a manner would certainly not repeat the mistake a second time. 8)

Probably wouldn't have much left of the off hand to do it with a second time.

Dime western novels.. i want to see those return.. The short story heaven for me.. lol..  I don't have a lot of time to read.  So the short stories are cool, and someday I will be in one the little part indian kid that can shoot and ride really crappy and ends up dead in the novel.. lol..

I take it your not intrested in leading roles? ;D I have a friend who supliments his retirement doing extra parts. hes been  Old man standing in bank, old man on park bench, guy one, guy two[ that has been a recurring role for him.] to date hes been in over 100 films,tv shows, and comercials. he says all it takes is being there every day.  his wife works in the buisness office, and he rides in with her each day. he reads alot while waiting. DR
Life is a rush into the unknown, You can duck down real low and hope nothing hits you, Or stand up tall, show it your teeth, and say "Dish it up Baby and dont get stingy with the Peppers!!!"

Deja vous

if you take the leading roles you dont always get to die, or get drown, or bucked off a horse.. or any of the fun stuff..lol
Even lightening strikes twice at times,  Deja Vous

Beg your pardon Billy , not meaning to hijack

On occasion I'll find a copy WW or TW, I look through them, but have never been motivated to subscribe.

GOTOW is another story though, I do and have subscribed for years. I enjoy the mag. wish it were bigger.
It is called GUNS of the Old West, not Legends of the Old Silver Screen, still I enjoy C. Jack Louis's musings.
Soon enough, the late Mr. Louis's articles more than likely will cease, maybe replaced with Harry Carry Jr's or maybe Buck Taylor's
memories.
I'll call your attention to: http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/topic,34203.0/topicseen.html
It concerns the latest Issue of GOTOW and The Burgess Rifle & the NCOWS shoot, nice read

I also get The NCOWS Shootest as a member.

The important thing is: Which one has a centerfold pull-out of a nekkid Winchester 1866?

Dobe had a article in Shoot as I recall (that's way I hope he might write for GOTOW)

SHOOT Magazine in Discontinued in 2008, TRUE WEST supposedly picked up Shoot's existing subscriptions.
So, subscribers were not totally left in the wings.
Chucky, tried to produce quality product and for about 8-9 years he did...Sadly, he just could not continue financially .

My wife (in my stead) or I often pickup a copy at a Barnes & Noble.
I never subscribed, pains me some to think if more of us had ......   :-\

I subscribed to "End Of Trail" magazine.  It got taken over by Shoot! Magazine.  They said they would honor existing subscriptions to EOT.  I had about six issues still coming to me.  Shoot! sent me one issue, then a bill for "renewal".  That pissed me off but I bought the subscription anyway.  When  True West Magazine took over for Shoot!, I still had four issues coming to me.  Again I got one issue of True West and then the bill for renewal.  Pissed off again I bought the new subscription anyway.  I let it lapse for the reasons mentioned in the opener of this thread.
I liked EOT.  I liked Shoot!, at least right up until near the end of it's run.  I didn't like True West.  I never liked the articles about the unknown B-western movie "stars" or the corny black & white movies they appeared in.  With the exception of Roy Rogers, I don't really care for singing cowboys either.  JMHO.

"When  True West Magazine took over for Shoot!, I still had four issues coming to me.  Again I got one issue of True West and then the bill for renewal"....

That clears that up  >:(

Years ago I had a Subscription to Camp Chase Gazette, it was Civil War enthusiast monthly by a Civil War enthusiast
He had some problems with the Printer Co. and switched. Then went to bi-monthly, but the issue's size increase some.
He continued, and issues began to come late, He tried to sell & sign people up to Life Time Subscriptions.
He would list the Lifers in each new issue, maybe 50 made the commitment and plopped down the payment , went on about a another year.
Problems continued, and he finally folded.
Civil War Times claimed to pick up his subscribers ... I already had a CWT subscription but no extention was offered.
Point is I did not and would never buy in to a life subscription....it does not say whose LIFE !  ::)

Funny thing is a web search shows Camp Chase Gazette seems to be back in Business  :-\

I went over to the Camp Chase Gazette site. Very interesting stories.
There was one article about being very authentic in re-enactment. Original buttons, original bridles for horse cavalry, etc. The problem is, almost all the photos are of old f.... codgers. These regular infantry and cavalrymen look older than the real generals were in either army. Most also look much better fed than the soldiers of the day. ;D

Now that I think of it - I am one of those old f.... codgers. :o

Very true  ;)  You see I was one of them ,
I know Ken Knoop the author used to ride in the 7th Ill, with him.

I started in 1976 during the Rev. War Bicentennial year,
in the Tin Type below the 1860 is orginial , as is the Emerson & Silver 1860 saber, so is my Saber belt buckle.
The likeness was taken in 1982 at the 119th Gettysburg reenactment.

I still have all the above  , though I no longer event for the very reason you touched on

That is a really neat photo!

When I lived in Charlottesville, VA, my friend and I used to go out on his family's property with a metal detector. The property included a site where Hessian mercenaries were imprisoned during the revolutionary war. We picked up the odd button or two, but most of the good stuff had been picked over long ago. Wish I still had those buttons.

By the way, many of those Hessians never went home but settled in the Blue Ridge Mountains in an area that is now Shenandoah National Park. When the park was formed, most of the descendants of the Hessian deserters settled down at the base of the mountains. Thus, you see the names Sprouse, Morris and Schifflett repeatedly in different spellings on mail boxes in that area,  nowadays.
