Having converted it to a bird's head grip, the hammer spur is too long.

What sort of bobbed or Bisley hammer options are out there?

Thanks in advance.

Interesting. Cactus Patch Kid had fitted a Bisley hammer to his 61 Uberti, wondered if he had any insight.

Anyone know if I could get away with a 73' ASM Bisley hammer?

That is strange that it hits. I have seen a couple of these conversions done without issue of the hammer spur hitting. Which grip frame did you use to convert it? ( not that it is going to change anything, I am curious as to what combination of grip frame, and hammers might have issues like this. ) I am certain someone on here has dealt with this issue before and may know which hammer would bolt on, but if it were mine I would do one of two thing to fix the problem. I would either heat the spur until malleable and bend the spur if there is enough room, and enough spur to do that. Or I would cut off the spur off and re-weld it in a different location to clear the grip frame. Either way I would have to re-color case harden the hammer, but the gun would still have the original style hammer with the rear sight on it. I think these conversions are neat looking. I would love to see pics of your BH conversion.

Story,

It would seem you already have the information you were requesting.
So, I will delet my earlier suggestion.

Story,

I'm a little confused.  A birds head grip has the same contour as the 1860 down the grip frame and should not interfere with the hammer spur.  If your describing a grip frame with a pronounced "hump" on the back, that's a "Thunderer" grip frame, not a birds head.
Either way, a Bisley hammer is not an option.  Not allowed on anything but a Bisley.
You may want to find a local gunsmith who can change the shape of your hammer spur.  Send for a replacement first, just in case.

I'm just guessing that Story is saying that with the birdshead (or Thunderer, whatever) grips on his gun that he cannot reach the hammer spur.  So more of an ergonomic issue than an interference issue.  And yeah, there are gunsmiths who can heat and bend your hammer spur back.  That would be cheaper than buying and trying to fit another type of hammer.   And as mentioned, that would make the gun not SASS legal, although that may not matter to you.
