The patter was one that Chuck Burrows posted some time back.   I finally found some leather I was semi-happy with then dunked it in some Walnut dye I had brewed.

Those look good, Mo. I like the rich color. The spots give them just that right amount of class. Nice job.

Mo, those are some mighty fine lookin Botas I really like the coloring and the conchos and spots are just the right touch.  One of these days I am going to have to try making some chaps and botas.

Mogorilla,

I am waiting for a pair I am having made for me; and if they look as good as yours, I will be estatic!
My moniker is my great grandfather's name. He served with the 2nd Florida Mounted Regiment in the Civil War. Afterward, he came home, packed his wife into a wagon, and was one of the first NorteAmericanos on the Frio River southwest of San Antonio ..... Kinda where present day Dilley is ...

Thanks guys.   They are tied on.   The ties I to hold them up have a bone bead and a brass cone at the end and the each end of the concho strings have brass cones as well.  The conchos are just the plain solid brass ones out of tandy's.   I wouldn't sneak up on any body in these.  I sound like a tinkers wagon on a bumpy road.    The original color was a real yellow buckskin, after I dipped them in the walnut, I hit them with a mix I made, 1 part bees wax, 1 part extra virgin olive oil, 1 part neatsfoot oil, water proofed them fairly well.

 Nice Botas!!
About a year ago I saw a couple of caballeros over in Norco wearing some. I should have taken a better look, but I didn't want to be rude.
So I'm hoping I'm not being rude to you, I ask that perhaps you might share with us a shot from the back so we can see how they are tied up.?
I am having a hard time figuring out how they stay up when a person starts walking around.
Thanks

Mogorilla,

I too would like to see a side and back view of the Botas ... I have this Belduque that I plan to wear in the right Botas, and was wondering how I would keep the knife and Bota from sliding down ....

I will get some taken this weekend.   I need to find a photographer as I took these bent 90 degrees at the waist.   I did find this link to an old post here that Chuck Burrows responded to.  Chuck posted three patterns for Botas about three-fourths down the page.   Mine are a combination of Pattern 1 and Pattern 3, mostly pattern 1, but I opted for ties rather than a buckle.   Mine overlap on the outside of the calf, the slits for the conchos are on the front, outer portion and the rear, under portion has the conchos.   My trick was finding leather that was big enough.  Local Tandy's had their buckskin table on sale, this was the 2nds stuff, real yellow, smooth on one side but with lots of holes.  I dove in and found two pieces that had broad expanses with no holes.  Still wasn't quite big enough, but the holes are in the overlap, or under the top flap.   I immediately dunked both pieces in a light walnut dye I made from boiling hulls.   I liked the color and cut the pattern out on a paper grocery sack.  Once each piece was cut, I trimmed them to my leg and then cut lace from the remaining pieces.   The stiching was fairly easy as it is just a saddle stitch the circumference of the knee.   I have had big calves (~25" at my heaviest), so boots were not always an easy wear.  Even now, a 100 pounds lighter, the non-PC boots I have are tight when I tuck my pants down them.  My hemming on my pants wasn't the best, so the botas hide all of that.   I will get some more pics up soon
