Hmmm-- in my right brand new catalog from Buffalo Arms, they list a Rapine mould for heel bullets for .44 Colt Conversions-- Rap451210-- price $79.95--- Phone 208-263-6953.  Good people to deal with.

Bill,

I will bring a few of the ones I make to the Nationals, to let you see.  I know you really don't want to wait that long but!!!!  What I did was to take a precus. 44 mold for the Colt or Rem and cut grooves in the heel step of it in order to make a tight fit into the 44Colts casing.  I make them for the Rem 44 conversion I made.  This was the way the very first bullets were in essence created.  They shoot just fine also.  I also created a hollow base from a Lee 240 grain mould.
See page 87 of Mike Venturino's book "Shooting Sixguns of the Old West" or page 159 from his book "Shooting Colt Single Actions" for pictures of the bullet from an original.

Email me and we can discuss more.  I am interested in seeing how your 44Colt conversion turned out.  Hope this helps for the time being.

Bob,
I know about the mould and I probably will get one of them.  Jerry has me thinking of maybe making my own since I have the machinery to do it, and it would be a fairly easy process, I would like to see how his bullets turned out first. I was looking to buy some before the Nationals to load for the Originals side match. I am converting all my conversions to the original barrels (.451/.452) but won't have it done by the Nationals.
I am going to re-chamber a Uberti Henry (Bob, you and I talked about this on the phone, it is presently .45LC) I have to .44 colt and shoot heeled bullets in it, it would be closer to the original cartridge chambering then the 44/40 or the .45 LC for the Henry. If I like it I am also going to re-chamber my 44/40 carbine. Just trying to fine tune my personna.
Jerry the first Model Richards Conversion I did came out beautifully. It started as a .38 special (still marked as such on the barrel which I am going to eventually mill off), I rebate the frame and fit a uberti .44 colt cylinder to it. I just cut the forcing cone in it (11 degrees) last month and I haven't had a chance to shoot it except to test it in my back yard, it functioned flawlessly I am bringing it to the Nationals if you would like to see it. This one is lined with a .44 cal (.429) liner so I may sell it once I get my others converted over to the .451 cal.  I am in the process of making a 1st model Richards/Mason conversion with a 3 1/2 in barrel to use as a pocket pistol, just about have it finished. After that, I am going to convert a colt pocket navy to .38 long colt, it's nice to have a son that is a engineer, he is doing the drawings for me right now.
Jerry, send me your e-mail, I don't have it. Mine is bill@surf-ici.com
