There were actually three original 1873 Winchester rifles that were rebuilt to use as prop guns in the movie WINCHESTER '73.  The serial numbers are 551816, 703161B and 706717.  None of these guns were a very close copy of a real 1 of 1000.  One of these guns, #703161B is owned by a friend of mine, who also has an original 1 of 1000.  Another of these guns has been in the A. I. McCroskie collection for many years.  The where-abouts of the third movie prop gun is unknown.  Probably the best color photos of the two known movie guns, will be found on page 145 in the book "The Story Of The Winchester 1 of 1000 and 1 of 100 Rifles" by Ed Lewis.  I have an original movie counter card poster for "WINCHESTER '73" that is signed by James Stewart.

I came across a pic of the movie 73 the other day, but can't remember where I saw it on the net...... :-\

There is a shot of it here:  http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/dvdreviews5/winchester73.htm

Scroll down to the DVD section and check out the movie poster.  Jimmy is holding the rifle. :)

Here's a link to the Lewis book.  http://www.amazon.com/Story-Winchester-1000-100-Rifles/dp/1931464413/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Found it! ;D  http://k41.pbase.com/o6/61/716161/1/85029566.sSoc1kbN.RifleDuo20070730_0968forweb.jpg  The second rifle is the movie rifle.  Top is an original.

Actually, this web site has some great pics of 1/1000 and 1/100 rifles, both 73 and 76.  Buck, you familiar with this outfit?
