I just received a Colt 1892 Army and Navy DA revolver. It is actually a 1901 Model, though the barrel and crane and cylinder are from a later model as they have a 1905 patent date. The cylinder is bored straight through, so I can fit 38 SPL cases. I test fired it with some hollow based 38LC I had bought a while back from River Junction and it shoots pretty good. I have about 3000 Speer hollow base wadcutters that I'm thinking of loading with 3FG Pinnacle (say 15 grains) and the HBWC in 38 Spl. cases. What do you think about this. I'm waiting to find some 38LC brass.

    Preacher Clint;
   I have had very good results with mine shooting hollow based wadcutters over Triple 7 in .38 Long Colt cases.  Never tried  any of the others.  I figured 777 would be hot enough to ensure obturation of the skirt on the wadcutter and it has worked well for me.  Tried some of the hollow based round noses from River Junction also, but the HBWC's shoot closer to point of aim and they were more reasonable in price.  Cases came from Starline.

I have had simular results using 777 and casted 125 grain TC bullet I have also used these sitting on top of a case fffg Goex and or schutzen. (whatever I am loading with at the time).Using a Long colt casing. Both have worked excellant in it, and have been as accurate as I can shoot.  Either way i have to wipe it down every 20 to 25 rounds it tends to bind up

It would seem that you have a 38 Extra Long Colt :D

Are the wadcutters legal in new cows/moo cows or whatever its called?

I haven't yet tried any black or sub in my 1892. But last year I was at a match where someone was using black in an 1892 in 41LC, and it was having lots of problems binding up. I may try some 777 with HBWCs, but I haven't been really satisfied with the smokeless loads I tried so far. I would think that lack of lube might be a problem with real black and HBWC.
