The tapaderos look like they will turn out well.

Did you use wood screws and screwhead washer to attach them to the strirups?

I like covered stirrups because they keep my feet from either getting knocked out of the stirrups or from somehow going through and hanging my foot up in the stirrup.  They also are a good shield to keep the mesquite thorns and other nasty vegetative matter from going right through my boot(s) and doing a number on my feet.  The ones I use are just rounded; they do not come to a point in front in the traditional mexican style, like yours in the photo.

If you think this might interest you, take a look in the thread for "copper rivets" and see how the guy who made my belt made some primitive conchos from old mexican coins.  He center-drilled the coins, then set them over a hole slightly smaller than the coin (I believe he did it this way; I don't think he used a dapping block) and whacked them with a hammer to give them the convex concho shape, then he used copper rivets to set them in the belt, peening over the end of the rivet onto the concho to anchor them.  You could do something similar with various round blanks, old coins (stay away from "clad" coins) or commercially-made conchos and use those screws to anchor them to the tapadero/stirrup assembly (you'd need longer screws, however).

These tapas look good!
