How many pards have handled an original New Model Police in .36 or .38 RF?

Did you like the way it felt in (loaded question)  you hand

I liked the comfort of the NM Police.

Butt-I can't FIND any .36 RF that I can afford to shoot.

Why can't the police model conversion be converted to shoot .38?

thanks for info ya,ll can pass along

"Why can't the police model conversion be converted to shoot .38?"

If it were, the likely centrefire round would be .38 Short Colt, aka .38 Revolver.

Anything can be achieved with the application of enough resources.

I have only seen photos in McDowells book.  They do show that, generally, a rimfire conversion has a simple backplate or cylinder cap with a slot, or slots the accept a hammer mounted firing pin to strike the rim.  Centre fire conversions need either holes centred behind the base of the round or some form of firing pin system to transfer the hammer blow to the primer.

As I recall from the book, Remington used a cylinder cap system similar to the R&D converstion cylinder.  For rimfire, the cap has slots at the outer edge to allow the firing pin to enter and strike the rim.

I ramble;

The solution would be a new cylinder cap!  Not impossible, but requiring a skilled gunsmith/machinist. Then, the hammer would have to be modified to work with the new cylinder cap.   Perhaps RAVEN could help?

I think the Remington Police would be a great revolver, if it were reproduced.  I'd get one!

Even a 36 Navy Remington to the original Remington dimensions would be a good gun to have.  Euroarms made it, and years ago the Uberti was a correct size, but for economy, both Pietta and Uberti now make the Navy on an Army frame.  Too bad.

Sir Charles, Thanks,  If it can't be modified, it probably ain't worth having anyway.

To give an idea of the size difference, the Uberti .36 Navy on left, Euroarms .36 Navy on the right.

And yes, I much prefer the feel of the smaller frame in my hand.

A real "sleeper" in the Remington line-up was the BELT Pistol.  Between the Navy and Police in size, but still 6 shots.

The Belt model and the Police can be modified to fire centerfire ammo (heel base or hollow base). I have done this and it's not hard to do.

Send me an email if you are interested........

Robby Reb;  If I were you, I'd get that pistol anyway if the price was reasonable.  Then, I'd give Hoof Hearted a PM.  He knows what he's talkin' about.

     2. 5 1/2" blue w/silver front sight and silver plated trigger guard.  good
There not museum quality, but I always feel guilty when I mess around these old treasures.  They where made to SHOOT.
