OK, so I'm feelin' like I really need a Bull Dog  pocket pistol. Just kinda like the lines of it. So I did a search on here and read all 9 pages of returns and learned a few things about 'em.

So, one thing I learned was that Webley used two words, Bull Dog, as opposed to Bulldog. So if the top of the frame is marked "The British Bull Dog", is it a Webley or did some of the other many copiers also use this spelling? Kind of a "Deringer/Derringer" question.

Also, is there a source for .38 S&W BP ammo? I don't reload myownself, and probably won't actually shot it enough to bother.

Thanks,
Hard Mouth

Perhaps one of the most copied revolvers of the era - the 'Bull Dog' was wildly popular in several calibers.

When made by reputable firms like Webley and Harrington & Richardson - they 'will' be marked and proofed.

When made by firms in Belgium and Germany, they 'will' be proofed, if not manufacturer-marked.

As far as BP-loaded ammunition, I know of no source - but it's an easy reload for someone who does that sort of thing - perhaps a Lee Loader is in order.

I've shot them in .32, .38, and .450 and never had qualms - but I was shooting ones in 'very' nice shape - (I can't speak for others unless I see the weapon).

You'll also see that name on several American-made weapons - that was a very popular term of the times - and quality varies on those as well.

St. George,
Thanks for your reply. Concise and informative, as you always are!

all you need is one of those little LEE LOADERS....the hand held type. and som BP& , .36 balls and small pistol primers.
I reload  .38 S&W  , .455 , ,450 . Its easy!  just make sure ya got enough BP in the case to completely fill it up when the ball  or Boolit is inserted.
Face it....if yer gonna shoot cartridge Bp pistoles....you are goona have to Learn to reload someday!   You can find  Bp loads sold online but the prices are Exorbitant!!!....you will save beaucoup   $$$  by rolling yer own... it aint hard to do..and its actually
part of the game!

When you receive your Bull Dog, check the calibre.  It may be .380 revolver, the inspiration and near twin of the .38 SHORT Colt.  If so brass & dies are available, as well as either heeled or hollow base bullets.
