I load up a little "sawed off" 40 S+W to shoot in my Volcanics.

I am able to get as much as 3.5 grains of "Power Pistol" behind a 155 grain Bullet, and 4 grains behind a 140 grain, for volicities between 800 to 975 FPS. This stuff sure does burn dirty.

I have tried "Bullseye", but this stuff shows signs of excessive pressure and still burns dirty.

I hear there are cleaner burning powders out there. Any of you Guys re-load with light loads and get clean burns?

Here's some shown in comparison to 22 Long Rifles.

Although I'm nearly 100% BP for my loading, I have used a lot of 700X over the years. I can't compare to clays, since I never used it. A bit of fouling is expected by me, even with these newfangled propellants. I lube all my own bullets & cast most of em as well. My BP soft lube works great with smokeless, too.

For my smokless shooting, mostly GAF .38 Colts, WB .45 acps, I've never seen anything cleaner than Alliant American Select.
