But was looking for something else and found this, you know how that goes sometimes.  It's from somewhere around 1900, just not sure if it is pre-1900.  Just thought it was too strange not to post.  Show this to all your friends who say they were born to late. ;D

Well, it would only matter if you....uh......actually WORE this device to a shoot, and it improved your shooting.

Then, everybody would want one!

Does it work as advertised?

Don't know, we'd need to find one in a museum and see if the batteries were still being made for it.  If not, I know a guy who could most likely rig one up.  All we would need is a volunteer who needed wanted to try it out.   ;D

My guess its a form of the moderns TENS units that are used today. Some back brakers use them as an after treatment.  Dad had one for His neck and Back years ago after a crushing injury.
Funny you should post this. Wife and I were in Antique shop few weeks ago. They had such same device for women a violet wand I think is what tag said it was. It cured a whole list of stuff. Snake oil quackery . Made for a good laugh.  But i guess they made them so people tried /used em.

Besides how many people bought the as seen on tv Ab machine that gave a 6 pack look without lifting a weight.

This one is dated 1889 for sure, from the Duke Collection also:

And in case anyone is curious, I'm researching electrical devices for home use in the late 19th Century, not strange medical devices.

Have you given GW your email address???  ;D

It's on my profile, but I found these all by myself.  BTW I bet DR. Bob has some of these devices in his collection.   ;D

Del,

No, but I wish I did! :o

For the collection or for use?  I think we could build a replica, with modern silicon chips and modern batteries we could reall fire it up.

Actually, if you wore  it under your clothing, no one would be the wiser, IF you didn't exhibit seizures or spastic motions.  Of course, the stimulation might overload your bowels. ;D ::) :o

Delmonico,

They have a couple of these in the Sacramento Museum that I docent for ... I'll see if I can get any information to send to you ... and I remember my parents playing parlor games with a unit called the Relaxacisor .... which worked on the idea that by electrifying major muscle groups, one could excercise while watching TV ... kind of a 'better living through electricity' thought ...

My moniker is my great grandfather's name. He served with the 2nd Florida Mounted Regiment in the Civil War. Afterward, he came home, packed his wife into a wagon, and was one of the first NorteAmericanos on the Frio River southwest of San Antonio ..... Kinda where present day Dilley is ...
