Tried something new

I had just come back from a match and took my empty brass back to my utility sink to get the cleanup in motion. After I rinsed out the brass and put them to dry I noticed my sack of deprimed STS shot shells. What the heck. I'll wash them out too. Can't hurt!

The bases corroded, the primer pockets were badly rusted/corroded(brown) and the inside of the cases was rough and hard to work with.
I de-primed/washed in a Dawn solution, rinsed well and dumped them into a colander. Quite a bit more care than I ever give empty brass.
Never again. they are so hard to work with I'm going to pitch them.

You washed them in the same water you washed your BP brass cases, is that what you are saying? It;s a shame about losing the shells.

I don't wash or tumble my scattergun hulls cuz they are, likely as not, plated metal.  What cleans one corrodes another.  Also, since I'm only getting Two or Three reloads per hull, I consider them consumable.

Now, all that said, manufacturers are catching on.  More and more are using steel or even aluminum "brass" bases.  The stuff simply isn't worth reloading.  I've seen Winchester AA hulls with aluminum bases lately.  I simply don't pick 'em up.  Thank god Remington STS hulls are still the old style reloadable ones.  I keep a watch out for those nice shiny green hulls with the brass bases and latch onto as many as I can find.

Noz, throw them in the tumbler they'll clean up qicker than yer pistol brass.. Mine have in a half an hour or so.  Like DD I only load them 2 or 3 times. So  I skip cleaning them, once I learnt what water did to them. My Brass hulls now i tend to put more effort in

Some shells are brass plated steel so they corrode easily once immersed in water.

I find the brass shuck much better outa my scatterguns.
