can anybody tell me what the factory grain (how many grains) a 38 specal load calls for ? Currently am loading 5 grains for cowboy shooting but want to load some at factory specks

One, factories don't use canister powder they buy bulk, often tons at a time and the labs work up the carge for that lot, it's cheaper that way.  Also it would help to know the brand and type of powder you are using.  The best thing to do is go to the makers website and find out what load on the charts duplicates the factory load.

5 grains of what?? ??? Cream of Wheat?? ??? What's the bullet weight??, lead?? full metal jacket?? Let us know what kind of powder and bullet. All the powder manufactures publish thier load data on thier web sites. Several have specifics for cowboy action.

For some of the powders used regularly in the .38 special, 5 grains would be an extremely heavy load -- one that is potentially dangerous.
