I shoot with some folks the all have their Armi sport Spencers in .45 Schofield. They are used for live fire and Civil War reenacting. A question came up can a Spencer in .45 Schofield be rechambered to .45 LC or maybe rebarreled. Can anyone point me in the right direction, that is if there is one.
Thanks,
Jimbo

You would have to rechamber the barrel, then go to a .44-40/.45 Colt cartridge cam and keeper.  You might have to change the lower block to be able to mount the proper cartridge cam and keeper,  I'm not sure. You would also need to change the magazine follower.

IE it can be done, not sure its  worth it.
Civilize them with a Krag . . .

Yes, I do have more facial hair now.

DRYDOCK,
We were not sure if these Spencers were made with different blocks for each caliber. I know that my 56-50 is lager but we
figured that the two  .45 cal. cartridges would be the same.  Anyway these are very early guns and have had many problems to include a barrel that breaks free when it gets hot from live fire. My 56-50 so far has held together only because I spent the time to read the posts here giving me a list of fixes to do before I started shooting.
Thanks for our insight

converting to a longer cartrige will depend on weather you have the early twin extractor modle or the one with the Lane type extractor. The chamber would have to be slity lenthend (check first ,on my 56-50 the chamber is already way to long)and the cam slitly adjusted, also the extractor as it controlls the lenth of the cartrige that will cycle properly ,the cartrige stop on the twin extractor modle would have to be modified also the cam, this would be a small job for somone who understands th geometry of the Spencer action
