I know that the vaquero is larger than a colt clone, but is the difference enough to require a bigger holster or will it still fit in a clones holster?

Gryffon,

Reckon that would depend on the holster.  I would think a holster made to fit a Colt SAA may be a little snug for a Vaquero.  I know my  Remy '58's are a tad loose in the holsters made to fit my Vaguero's.  Can't say fer sure 'bout the SAA!

My holster maker tells me that there is a differance between the regualr
vaquero and the bisley vaquero.  It as something  to do with where the
trigger guard hits the holster.

??? I had same questions a few months back, According to Texas Jacks there holsters fit the Colt's and clones but not the Vaquero's..I have  Bisley models, I had a Saddlemaker make my shoulder holster primarlary so when I am riding. I'm left handed but shoot either, however I rope left only and rein the horse right only. Either one of my pistols fit it snug and secure and come out when I need to get sudden. I also bought a less expensive one from Cabela's in which I figured I could modify if need to be. It's by no means fancy but is more western style than some of the customs I've seen and it also works well, without any modifing.  Remember leather streches, and can be reshaped some what with a little help from water and blocks tennis balls (don't recommend stickin' your pistol in wet leather) etc. To give the shape needed. Hope this helps>>>>>>>>>>>lr

I bought a double gun rig a while back for my Bisley Vaquero and my Birds' Head Vaquero, from Blue Press - the re-loading folks' catalogue.  I chose the strong side 5.5 inch model for the Bisley and a cross draw model in the 4.75 inch version for the Birds' Head.  Both revolvers fit perfectly in them.  I just told the folks at Blue Press when I ordered them that they were for Ruger Vaqueros.  The rig is of very good quality at a very reasonable price.
