I changed my order with Shiloh from the business rifle,,,,and have now a Shiloh '74 full Military rifle ordered.

I love the 19th century military guns, and this outta be a fine hunting rifle too. I like the idea of sling swivels being correct on the military rifle.

Personally, I'm with you on this decision. While the business rifle is mighty nice, there is just something about the military rifle that is awesome. I'm envious. ;D

Drydock

Best of all Sharps to actualy take into the field.  You can come play with the GAF boys now as well!   ;D
Civilize them with a Krag . . .

How long did Shiloh say you'll have to wait MD?

Depends on what you want, but when I ordered my .40-82 with a 28' heavy, I was told about 18 months.  They do everything in batches of 30 if they can help it.  If they have 28 or 29 rifles with the same barrel weight and calibre, they will throw in two more and make them in stock rifles for the rack.  Everything is made in house.  Also with stock blanks, they do as many similar profiles as they can at a time cutting down on set-up time which is very expensive.

So if you want something out of the ordinary lilke a .44 cal., you might have a bit of a wait.  Not sure how they handle the 14, 16, and 25 pound barrels though.  The must do them in onesies and twosies for the extra $1000.

As for badgering them on a delivery time.  That must be a question they hear twenty times a day.  I call them once a month or so to put more $$$ down, add to my equiptment inventory, and sometimes throw the gauntlet down over the shoot they come up here for in July.   :P  Asking when it's going to be done would be like watching toast pop... a very expensive piece of toast.

Thanks Short Knife.  I've been toying with ordering one.  I 'm looking for a plain Jane 45-70 Business rifle with 28" barrel, something that a fella could pack around without having a coronary.  If delivery is too far out, I'll just try to find one local one on the used market.  Thanks for the explanation, much appreciated.

Phone them up and see what's on the rack.  There might be a .45-70 with a regular weight octagon barrel or maybe a Business rifle.

C. Sharps across the street farms the barrels out.  Badger Barrels, so they can build more on an as ordered schedule thus a shorter turnaround.  Their receivers are machined and not forged.

For a used Shiloh, your best bet might be Goodman Guns (Bill Goodman) in Bozeman, or the crew at Wyoming Amory in Cody.

Thanks Short Knife, I think I'll give them a call and see whats on the rack.  I've always wanted to go to Montana, maybe I'll just drive up there if they have something.
