Pete, I understand what you are saying as I felt the same way when I first started. If you had everyone shooting BP one handed there would be no SASS. There are several people like you and me who love the feel of a full case of BP going off. Shooting the rifle stages and not being able to see the targets and the simple nostalgia of it all. 85% of the people shooting would quit even if you gave them the guns and ammo to shoot. SASS is a mix of many different mind sets. You have yours. Learn to shoot your class and enjoy what you have did on that day. As far as the GAMERS go they are in every shooting sport. We have one that you could probably go down range and catch his bullets but he shoots fast and wins his class almost every shoot. You have to look at it and laugh. You can bet your bottom dollar that he would not care to be in a real shooting and was forced to use his ammo. I don't care to be hit with a bb gun but I bet his bullets would not hurt you through a heavy coat. I have my game and he has his. I always have someone at every match ask me the same question. How much powder are you putting in them cases? I laugh and say I don't know but I keep bending that rod I use to push it down so that the bullet will fit. Enjoy the shooting and have fun your way.

32 grain Goex ff in 44/40 case. little less then a full case. working toward being as original as can resonably be expected. Same age as you , my catagory is FCD. or Frontiermen. So I figure I can't shoot fast so I just try to look good. A lot of smoke and a lot of noise. I most enjoy the whole game, shooting, dressing the part and the dinners and such. State meets are the best and thats where if there wern't the different catagorys there really wouldn't  be much of a meet so we need all the different shooters to fill our posses. I know at the last monthy I was asked jokenly if I couldn't get a little more power in those cases. Nothing like the sound, smell and feel of a full load BP large caliber gun going off. Kind of funny when a light load shooter can't knock down a knockdown.
thats my story and I'm stickin to it.
See ya when the smoke clears.

Blackpowder Burn

Nothing like shooting a fully loaded 44-40 or 45 LC along with a 45-70 with BP as a Gunfighter in the Cody Dixon category.  Now that's a lotta smoke and boom!  I have people tell me they come shoot just to see the show I put on.  That's what I'm after, since I'll never be fast enough to challenge anyone for a championship.  I also got that fella to join me on the dark side.  Now that's the kind of success I'm aiming for.  ;D
