I have just acquired another Spencer carbine, this time a model 1867. The woodwork is not in great shape so to prevent further damage during shoots I plan to replace the stock with new wood, keeping the original in case  I sell the gun on. Does anyone have any experience with the stocks that S & S Firearms sells, or a lead to another supplier? Also any advice on how to remove the buttstock much appreciated.

Perry,

Try this link:  http://www.dunlapwoodcrafts.com/milstocks.htm  Not sure if they can help.  And maybe here:  http://spencerriflebarrels.com/stockwork.htm

Please report on what you find out.

Thanks,

The S&S stock is inleted but not finished ,it takes a little work but comes up well ,To remove the magizine stocknut i made up a special srew driver out of solid rod then drilled a hole to put a T bar through,it came of easly ,if there is rust between the magizine tube and and the stock it can get difical ,it took me a couple of days jently taping the magizine tube with a bras drift before i could back the stock out enough to unscrew the magizine tube from the action, then you can tap the tube backwards and forwards to loosen it from the stock, out of 12 i have only hade to do this once

Got an email reply from Daniel at Dunlap Woodcrafts today confirming that a Spencer stock set is available at $135 plus shipping. They can ship to me in the UK and accept credit cards. The sample stock in the photos he sent had a nice grain. I will order a set and post some photos of my progress later.
