I've always done the soup thing.  Got a cookbook dated 1880's that has what looks like a great recipe for Green Turtle steaks, but they's put me in jail if I tried it and got caught.

I agree about the cleaning part and I agree about the eating part.. ;D Those things are great. Up until a few years ago we had an annual wildlife cookout. A lady I know would roll the turtle in an awesome batter and deep fry it...all I can say is it was great.
Always had venison, turtle, duck, turkey, BBQ beaver, smoked steelhead, bear stew, fried rabbit, partridge..well you get the point...add horseshoes and a keg or two of beer and a great time was had by all!!! ;D

you have to be very near our age...and had the pleasure of a Fried Green Turtle Steak.
I think it went protected and very illegal to hunt in the early 60's.

I remember a place in Florida Keys the Green Turtle Inn that served it ....dang , I can almost still taste it.
it was WONDERFUL  :D

There is no way that I subscribe to the PETA ethic. However, that Snapping Turtle in the pictures is alive, and is a very old turtle.

I kind of hope he got put back into where ever he came from.

I had three small Snapping turtles as pets once. I got rid of them when I realized my fingers were becoming an attractive food source, to them.

I always thought that soft shell turtles were better eating. You ought to see the crazy Caguns catch Snappers. They wade around watching for air bubbles then reach down and grab the tail. Great sport but not for this boy.
Yes, I do have more facial hair now.

Dang, Y'all are making me hungry!!  ;D
