FWIW - Barge today is not the same as it once was, they have changed the formula, plus IMO it never was the best as has been far too often touted. The original Barge was in fact developed for gluing on shoe soles not as a general leather glue.

ANY good quality contact cement will work - Tanner's Bond is a good one and I along with several other pros I know use plain ole DAP Weldwood Regular formula available at just about any hardware store. It's about half the cost of Barge and in all of the comparative tests I've done it works just as well.

As always others mileage will vary.........

master cement is the same as the old barge and nothing beats it. and if you thin the new barge a little it works as good as the old.

I was wonderin what kind of glue to use on something i am going to do.I'll be using elk laceing.Am i correct in saying this stuff will not bleed through?Gonna order some lacing from a guy KT knows and i can get very long lengths,it will be for some dream catchers,just need to get everything together.I got a sample from KTs friend and it's good stuff.Ya have to wrap a little around the ring,glue,wrap a little,glue and so on till ya get all the way around the ring.Don't want it to go through the lacing..

Since I still technically have my saddle shop I still order ocasionally from Weavers and other places. I still buy Barges by the gallon and other supplies wholesale. drop me a line if you cant find it locally and I'll see if I cant help you out.

I was in the Tandy store in Minneapolis last week and they sell Barge cement.  Only problem is that they do not sell it to retail customers, go figure.  I bought the tandy brand, it works well enough for a hack like me.

I have always been able to buy Barge at our local Tandy store just outside of Milwaukee. Purchasing it by the gallon is the most cost effective way to buy it. I've always assumed it was the real item.

They did change the color of the can's recently. It used to be Red & Yellow, now it's now Blue & White.

The new formulas Tandy has does not work near as well as it did. I have had a can for yers, and never suffered any damage to the glue. This new stuff, if it gets cold all is lost. Home Depot, Lowe's, and like said hardware stores have in quarts and gallons and it still works, may not have the brush we are use to, but I buy those buy the 1K from Harbor Frieght (acid solder brushes, real cheap).
Also Tandy has a white leather bond or weld, (can't remember exact name it is in the shop) but it works great too. Put it on one side, and you do have time to move it around. But Barge's is still my favorite.
