1860 Army Sheriff

Was wondering if anybody has converted an 1860 Army Sheriff or an 1862 Army Police revolver? Pics and any information on the conversions would be greatly appreciated. Am thinking of doing one, but wanted to see what others had to say first.

Converting the 1862 is a strictly custom job. There is very little room for .38's in the cylinder and smokeless is an accident waiting to happen which is why both Kirst and R&D will not offer one for sale. In order to convert it you need a Kirst Ring for the 1849 Pocket and then you convert the percussion cylinder to .38 Short Colt.

As for the 1860 Sherif both R&D and Kirst make converters that will work well in it. The R&D requires you to remove the cylinder to reload and the Kirst requires you to cut a channel in the recoil shield to be a breach loader.

True....Unless the 1862 Sherriff's model is the Pietta version.....in which case a standard conversion kit for the Pietta Navy model will drop-in.

This is true, I've exchanged cylinders & barrels with my Pa's 1861 Pietta Navy. Never tried his conversion cylinder (he has Kirst & R&Ds), but they work fine with his guns (1851, 1861).
