Howdy, it is good to be a member of this forum.  I had read everything on here about the 76 Winchester copies being made as well as other places.  I ended up buying a Charter/ Chaparral 76 which looked good in the store.  I could not find anything obviously wrong with it.  It even had the tab on the bottom of the bolt.  Well, it did have the tab BUT it does not extend beoynd the bolt face.  Course we all know that now it does not feed or fire properly.  I have been unable to get in touch with anyone from either Charter or Chaparrel.  So I have read about these tabs being welded up.  My question is who can I get to do that work? Thanks Moose

Forget Charter Arms... They quit importing them in 07 ( same year they introduced them at the Shot Show )  ::)
when planets align...do the deal !

Try Marstar in Canada, they import the Chapparal now.

Howdy, Moose.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. :(  WC's suggestion of Marstar is the best place on this continent.  Failing that, you can order parts direct from Italy:

http://www.chaparralarms.com/

If all else fails, contact me via PM or e-mail and I will see if I can put you together with a fella that can weld it up for ya.

Would it not be in this mans best interest to contact the mfg. Sounds like an error in mfg. Not the importer of course.  Don

Good luck waiting for an answer from Chapparal, I sent them 3 emails in 09,  never recieved any kind of answer. The whole mess strikes me as Chapparal,  being ungratefull that we even exist as consumers of their products.
I had the same problem on an 76 that I puchased new. I took the bolt to a place that did tig welding, and had a tiny drop of weld on the bottom of the bolt and reformed it myself. Reforming was the hardest part, as the tig weld was very hard, files won't touch it. I did it carefully with a Dremel tool.
All that being said, I havn't shot the 76 yet, But it will cycle 8-9 rds of dummies real slick, so I think it will work okay.
I have a Chapparal 73 in 45 colt that i slicked up the action on, and it is a tack driver at 50 and 100 yds. I only use black powder in all my cowboy type guns.

Update.  I heard from the people at Charter.  They were GREAT.  Had one .45-75 bolt left and are sending it to me free of charge.  Can't ask for better than that.  Hopefully that will get things up and running with no other problems cropping up.  Thanks for all the suggestions. Moose

I've kinda been down that bumpy slippery slope!   ;) Great Luck and I mean it!   ;D
Best start lookin for a Real Winchester 1876 bolt.  Might as well get to know all the Winchester Parts people.   8)

You are way better off gettin the real Winchester parts.  Ebay, gunbroker, any number of places.

But, who knows,...... maybe... all ya need is that bolt............Only your time and shootin will tell.

Let us know who it goes!

New Update.  I recieved my new bolt.  Looks just like the old one.  Charter is still great in my opnion.  But now I am thinking Boat Anchor or Floor Lamp?

Moose,

Before you give up on your Chaparral, try shooting it. I had an origional 76 (45-75) with the stabilizing tip comlpletely broken off;it worked perfectly.

P.S.   Buckingham's (731-559-4169, no web site) has breechbolts listed in their catalog; but they are NOT cheap!

Good luck,
