I have always been looking to add a more accurate smaller-frame Remington .36 Navy to improve my 1870 Naval persona. (My Uberti .36 cal Remington Navy, although a fine shooter, is bulky and inaccurate, as they are built on the .44 cal. frame to simplify manufacturing.)

This weekend at the NCOWS Convention in Kansas City (Oh Woe to Ye Who Missed It!), I found and managed to work out a deal to acquire a small-frame Euroarms .36 Navy Remington, date number XX7 (1971), and rather minty. According to the dealer it was only used as a prop gun. (It was only driven to re-enactments by a little blue-haired lady on Sundays??!?)
Action is smooth and let-off crisp, finish exhibiting minimal wear, and for an absolute stroke-of-luck, serendipitous piece of good fortune,- the grips have the prettiest mottled agate-pattern figuring in walnut I have ever seen on a cap 'n' ball revolver.

I plan to change out the nipples to Treso and fine-tune it. This reduced scale grip fits my hands far better than my old Uberti .36 Navy.

Future plans will likely include de-farbing and adding historically accurate Naval identification lettering and anchor mark to the barrel top, with perhaps a more period finish.
(As a reference, I use "U.S. Naval Handguns 1808-1911" by Frederick R. Winter, 1970, 1st Edition, Andrew Mowbray INC, 1990, available from Dixie Gun Works)

RCJ...Sorry to hear you got rid of that fine L&R but I'm glad to see you got something for it you really like...can't wait to see it when you get it de-farbed.

SHB, Your presense was greatly missed my friend. I bought a couple of watch chains and a brass Masonic emblem. I am sorta glad I was flying back, otherwise I would have bought too much stuff to bring home.

My biggest joy, besides getting to work on guns and meeting the Marshal and Marshalette, was getting to know the fine members of the Executive Committee, Seeing folks from the SW Regionals, and making new friends I had not met yet.  And I ran into a customer of mine whom I had never seen, just done business with over the internet and phone.  It was a great time...

I had a great time but I must admit to a moment of embarrassment.  I had what I thought were 3 full boxes of Blackhills 38-40 rounds.  A fella was interested but when he opened one box there were only 30 live rounds and 20 empty cases :-[  I had found the ammo while getting ready.  I had forgot I even had them and certainly forgot that I had shot some of them.  I think he accepted my explanation and I sold him the 130 rounds for what I had marked 100 for.  I hope he didn't think I was trying to pull a fast one. :(

On the other hand, it was good to know that they were quality tested. ::) ;)

A couple of Pards down in the SCORRS Forum have pm'd me and suggested that because of the relatively early date code, it may be wiser to not remove markings afterall. May be a future selling point - collectible feature, etc.

I think that was good advice. I'll add the anchor to the top barrel flat, and some other refinements, but I'm not going to de-farb it. Probably save me money in the long run. Just going to enjoy shooting it.

I have more than one Joy for the convention.  The best part of all was being able to hang out with all the folks from NCOWS that I have met over the years and meeting new people who attended this year.  I also bought 2 new vests from Jean and my wife ordered a new fancy dress.  Hooah.

RCJ congratulations on your new Navy.

Bill:

You are right, I am anxiously awaiting the moccasins as well.  As I said I had so many "joys" from the convention but the best of all was being able to visit with friends like you.

I would like to have a pair of those Comanche moccasins myself, but I don't think Bill has enough deer skin.
