Stiffening leather,.....

I was in a quality store that you all use eventually, and they had a brand of holsters that were actually hardened leather. This is to keep shape and to hold the weapon tightly for concealed carry.

I have stiffened leather by heating it slowly at low temperatures, but this method would not stand up to hard use without cracking.

Another method is to put a resin compound on it and put it in a vaccum chamber and suck the resin into the pores. That may work.

I was just curious if anyone knows or has had any experience with any type of hardening that would stand up to hard use and retain its shape?

You can pm me if you don't want to give up any trade secrets.

I am going to build a paddle holster and want it to fit well. I have built lots of holsters by the way, and have other ways of stiffening them.

An old trick was to wet molt the holster with a mix of water and rubbing alcahol.

It has been to long to remember my boot making training. I Dont remember the specs, boot leather  soles were run through a roller press that was kinda egg shaped. The  soles are measure in Irons and specs have escaped me. As to what they started out as and how far I pressed them.
How this would apply to gun leather no clue .
