Howdy All,

This topic may have been adressed before and if so maybe someone can point me to the right post.  I got my Spencer in 44-40 and I can only load 5 rounds.  The ArmiSport site says I should be able to load 6.  Looking at the magazine tube, it appears that the spring is bunching and catching on the tube rather than coiling straight back.  Is there something I can do to fix this?

Howdy Shakey,

The Spencers are imported with a "tang" attached to the tube plunger.  It is easily cut or broken off.  You will have to disassemble the feeding tube to see it.  My 56-50 had the same problem.

Didn't have to break or cut mine, just unscrewed it.

Please be careful...

Do not break the little rod..unscrew it..
Then you can fit 7 .44-40 rounds in your Spencer, as I do..

Howdy Again,

I unscrewed the 4" rod from the back of the follower.  Now I can load 7 rounds but the action will not pick them up to load them.  I either have to point the rifle down at a 45 degree angle or the action jams or does not pick up a round.  Do I need a better spring?
