After a looonng wait the 50-95 got here today. ;D
Good looking rifle. Needs a good cleaning like they all do.
I have sluged the bore. WOW .514  :o, so now I need to get another 4-D expander plug.
For this size of bore what should I get? I'm thinking .512 expander and shoot a .515 bullet.
Any coments?

I'm also going to get ahold of Bennie at Old West Moulds. The mould I got from him cast a nice bullet
but only about .513-.514 and should be .515 in WW. Here again any coments?

I'm a happy camper.

Hi Doc - Congrats on the new arrival!

I'm not surprised by the groove size, mine runs .5137".  I've found both .514" and .515" bullets work well.  I've got the CH4D dies and use a .512" expander.  I've had fairly good luck with a .513" bullet using a full load of Swiss 1.5.  But not as good with Goex 2F.  I think the Swiss has more giddyap to it and does a better job of quickly expanding the bullet into the grooves.  These rifles just love black powder as long as you keep the bore clean.

Let us know how it shoots and what your loads are.

I agree about your statement concerning Swiss 1½.  It packs a pretty good wallop with 76 grains in my 45-75 and is pretty accurate too.  Plus lots of smoke, flame and bang to go with that wallop.
When in doubt, mumble!

Still waiting on a new expander plug from 4-D so
