Carving question

Ok, I have another ignorant question that probably has been answered before. I have searched here and in book I have, but cannot find what tool is used to make the line that is used to just outline a belt or holster. Not sure I am explaining it correctly. Also how is the beveled outline that is used on holsters. Again I may not be calling it the right thing.

I found an example of what I am talking about. It is Marshal Will Wingam's black holster and belt on page 2 in the Show your stuff.

Pappy, these are the tools I use which may be different from others.  The outside line is done with a push edger, the one with the wood handle, the dual line is done with the dual edge blade in a swivel knife.   Hope this helps.

AC, I thought you were supposed to pull that Osborne edger toward you. I'm certainly no expert, but I don't have as much control pushing as pulling it.

Pappy I assume you are talking about that first black holster Marshall Will posted, with the excellent meander stamp. I'm hoping he will weigh in here and tell us how he did that.

With mine, I use a compass to lightly scribe the first line, then I cut it with a swivel knife.
Then I use the compass again, IN THE CUT LINE, and lightly scribe the second line. Cut it with the swivel knife.
THen I  bevel both sides, leaving the space in between the lines raised.
It doesnt take as long as it sounds.

  I do it the same as Dalton, but use my Wing Dividers to scribe the line,  (I also use a couple  beader blades of different widths at times), then use a beveler on each side to get the center raised,then I use a modeling spoon to lightly smooth or round over the edges of the raised line, this will give your line a softer look, as Dalton points out, it's not hard, but do a practice piece first to get the hang of it.Marshal Will's holsters are top notch, and a good example of the way they should look when done.

Heh. Wing dividers are what I use too, not a compass....
I also go over mine with a spoon to round the edge bead.

I made an edger from a dinner fork, breakfast er what ever.

Dalton gave me the idea of double lines for a boarder, been working on it.

I'm on the last journey on my holster, should be done this evening. So far, so good.

I use beader blades, some from Tandy, Bob Beard & some I made.

AC called it right. I used the push edger to put the bead next to the meander. I use that a lot when I want to outline an area or border without detracting from it.
