I went to the Buffalo Arms website today and got the shock of my life, a conversion cylinder for the 1863 .31 cal Remington revolver made by Kirst. I have been waiting forever for one of these to appear. I had been putting off buying the 1863 because there wasn't a cartridge conversion for it, In Dennis Addlers book on cartridge conversion's more of them ended up shooting cartridges than cap 'n ball. Now to get the money to buy them both. Here is the url, second row in the center

I just picked up one of these little Remingtons. Do the Kirst cylinders just "drop in" or do they need gunsmith fitting?

Rumor says no gunsmithing. We will see how well Pietta has improved the tolerances on these pistols.

I can help with some rumor control.................

The new Pietta Pockets were "re-engineered" (Walt worked long and hard on that) and they are much better, requiring less fitting of the Kirst Konverter.

Occaisionally (appears to be a bit less than 10%) there is a bolt fitment issue which is fairly easy to correct. They do index with a lot less hand issues than before.

If anyone reading this has one of the older brass framed pockets they want to let go of, I need one for a project...........

AHHH, but do we know the serial number at which Piettas beccame more conversion friendly?  I have a pair of the little stel frame boogers that might want to getpgraded one day.
