Does anyone know when the Marine Corps went to the khaki field shirt as opposed to the blue field shirt?  According to one picture I just found online, it looks like they came into use prior to 1906.  I'd appreciate any information anyone has.  Thanks!

I know the khaki shirt was NOT mentioned in the 1900 uniform regulations, but the shirt was in general use not long afterwards with the Marines fighting the Philipine Insurrection.  In 1900 the khaki field uniform was officially authorized, differing slightly from the transitional one worn since late 1898.  However, it was originally worn with the blue flannel shirt.

I'll see what my library has to say on the topic.  I'm interested myself.

The Marine Corps introduced the khaki flannel shirt in the 1904 uniform regulations.

Sir,
Were the 1904 regulations changes to the 1900 regulations or a whole new set of regulations?  Thank you!

I found references to the 1904 regulations in two books on Marine uniforms so I assume they meant these were new regulations, not changes to the 1900 regulations.  I'll check to confirm, and see if I can get a copy.

Thank you, sir!  I'd love to have access to the regulations prior to the 1912 regs.  (I already have those.)

Sent an e-mail to the uniform currator.  I'll let you know when they arrive.

It may be a few days before I get a response, so be patient.  As you've probably seen on the news, the Mid-Atlantic was hit hard by a snowstorm and just about everything is shut down.  I personally doubt many will get to work tomorrow.  Most can't even get out of their driveways, and the most of the streets still aren't plowed.

Sir,
It's not a huge rush.  Just a project I'm in the beginning stages of.  Thanks!

I received the USMC 1904 regulations.

I will send you a copy, as well as one to post on the GAF website.
