I've bought a NYS rolling block saddle ring carbine.
Does anyone have the proper tear down instuctions so I can clean up the old oil in the receaver?
This one has the saftey hammers so I'm not sure if it would come apart like a regular roller.
I don't want to screw something up.
Mybe some one can walk me through it.

Thanks

I don't know if there's a difference. Go to a RB forum and ask. I've handled the NYS guns but never fired one or took it down. Yours in .50-70?
Yes, I do have more facial hair now.

Doc O

Yes mine a 50-70.
A friend just emailed me from New York saying it does break down like the repos.
Let me run thruogh it and see if I'm right.
1. Bring hammer to full cock
2. remove retainer srew and clip
3. remove block pin and block
4. let hammer OFF full cock
5. remove hammer pin and hammer
6. remove tang bolt and remove trigger works.
Is that correct?

Take down sounds right to me.
The .50-70 was an early Gov't caliber. Because they had such a rainbow like trajectory, they weren't considered a 'long range' rifle. They were replaced by the .45-70 if that gives you an idea. They are capable of killing nearly any game in North America except that penetration be not be enough for a large bear. They are very easy to reload and very fun to shoot.

I got it tore down and cleaned up. Wasn't to bad.
I've got a 45-70 for long range.
This one for making big hole. ;D
Now to get my loading components.
