I've lost my mind

Bad Hand Dan

I'm a new CAS guy. Some of y'all have already helped me with some issues.

So I've been shooting my Ruger Vaqueros and having a dandy time. I'm not really good yet, but I expect to be one day.

Now I've decided to try a big honkin' BP pistol. Too much Josey Wales and Texas Ranger in my system, I think.

I'm thinking of a Uberti 1847 Walker. I don't mind the size or weight, I think it will suit me.

Questions:

Any tips on where to buy?

Do the conversion cylinders ruin the characteristics of this gun? I wouldn't mind if the gun were a bit easier to load.

Can you change back from a conversion cylinder?

Am I just a modern wimp by worrying about this stuff?

Does anyone have a 47 Wlker that would be for sale?

"You gonna pull them pistols or whistle Dixie?"

Grapeshot

Since you are already shooting rugers, why not stay with them and get the Ruger Old Army?

The walker is a big, heavy gun.  You can get the same results with less aggrevation by getting any of the Dragoon Series.  Taylor's has them.  That way, you don't have to raise the loading lever every time you fire it just to be able to cock the revolver to go to the next chamber.
Listen!  Do you hear that?  The roar of Cannons and the screams of the dying.  Ahh!  Music to my ears.

Bad Hand Dan

I really appreciate the help gents! I think the 1st model dragoon will be my choice.

May the Lord bless you and your families.

44caliberkid

I think you would like the 3rd Model better, incorporates all the improvements over the first model.  It would be awesome converted to .45 Schofield/ 45 Colt.

Or the 2nd model it has the some of the improvements found on the 3rd model  but still has the squareback triggerguard.

Cheyenne

The conversion cylinders for either the Walker or Dragoons doesn't change the characteristics, and when loaded, looks like the original percussion gun.  It does require you to remove the barrel to load/unload the cartridges, but that's still easier for some than loading loose powder and ball.
Well..........Bye!

Yeeehhhaaawww!!

This is very helpful. As you have guessed, I want the squareback trigger guard and I'll be converting the gun to cartridge.

The R & D stuff looks rockin' and I'm going to go that way. I was wondering if I could put the gun back to BP after using the R & D piece, or if I couldn't.

I look forward to meeting you all in person.
