Just got a pair of Uberti Richard Mason conversions that are just piercing the primers.
There is not a lot of material to work with so does anybody have some experience
in how to fix them?  I have broken the edges of the firing pins and that helped some.

If by "Richards Masons" you mean 71/72 Open Tops then you need to buy firing pins here:

Hope this helps!

I have a pair of open tops and have replaced the firing pins.  The Richard Mason conversions use a
flat firing pin or blade in the hammer.  It comes down on the primer at an angle like a hand swung
pick.

Charlie,

The "A" part of the problem is the Main Spring.  The main springs are better suited under the back of a Dodge Ram pickup.  They need to be replaced with lighter springs.  The two best choices are "Lee's Gunsmithing Gunfighter" springs, available from Brownells or VTI gunparts has their own lighter main spring.  The springs will help.

The "B" part is to blunt the firing pin.  Blunting the firing pin is touchy.  Too much "blunt" and the firing pins become too short.  After replacing the springs, SLOWLY stone the tip of the firing pin until the piercing stops.  I do mean SLOWLY.  Every few passes, step out to the back yard and fire a primed case.  Inspect the "dent" from the firing pin as you want a nice deep dent but no hole.  SLOWLY ;)

Pretty easy fix to this issue.
I also have a par of R-Ms that did the same thing. I simply stoned them a bit & tested using a primed cartridge case. If the gun jams after firing the primer only case, simply remove the barrel rather than force it. If it still pierces, then remove a bit more. Replacement FPs are easy to come up with IF you overdo it.
