Got in some practice with the 4 Vaqueros and shot the Alaskan too.  The Vaqueros did fine, as always, even with an off brand ammo I'd never even heard of.  It had 255 gr. lead slugs which were round nose flat point.  My Vaqueros prefer Winchester ammo, Black Hills ammo, both 250 gr. and also like the Ultra-Max cowboy loads too.  The stuff I bought last week, (I can't remember the name and I threw away the boxes at the range), shot almost as good as the other three and was much cheaper.

In the Alaskan I shot up several boxes of old Winchester Silver Tips I had laying around and a few boxes of the Cor Bon 200 gr. JHPs.  I regulated the sights for the Cor Bon stuff last year when I bought the Alaskan.  I tried out the new 45 Colt load from Cor Bon too.  It is a 225 gr. all copper hollow point load.  Muzzle velocitly on the box says 1200 fps.  These turned out to be an extremely powerful load.  I'd say on a par with the weaker loads in 454 Casull.  They made huge booms when I fired them along with huge muzzle flashes.  The recoil felt just like the lighter loads in 454 too.  I know these new Cor Bon DPX loads are marketed as self defense ammo but after shooting some, I'm thinking they might just be a bit too powerful for that purpose.  I think I'll be sticking with their 200 gr. JHP as my home defense / self defense load of choice for the Alaskan.

Anyway, it was nice to smell gun smoke again.  I wish I could find time to do that once a week instead of just once every two months or so.   8)
