Between the Shields River and west side of the Crazies. There's enough broken country so you can put on a pretty good sneak. Heck of a lot more difficult than a scoped 270, but it really gets one's attention when they see an antelope in the truck and a '73 in the gunrack!

The mt in you screen name must mean you are in Montana... Are you a native?

I was born in Columbus, MT lo those many years ago...!

Couple decades, ex-New England Yankee. Can't help where your born. Guess Jim Bridger wasn't a native either. Love it, raised my kids in this valley and I'll only leave in a box.

My grandfather who was born in Iowa, in 1850, arrived in Montana in early 1866. He wouldn't leave either.

It seems to me, that most people, sooner or later,  are inflicted with a disease called MAGNUMITIUS.

but why do you think you need a +P cartridge?

I appreciate the input and advice. Here in Indiana, other than shotguns we may only use rifles with a pistol caliber up to a .500 S&W. I'm not using a scope but just the iron sights on the weapon, so I'm good to about 50 yards. I agree 100% on your comment of shot placement, I would just like a little insurance if my shot were to hit a shoulder bone, and I also want a humane kill knowing the higher velocity creates a bigger more fatal wound channel.

I'm asking from a hunting standpoint and not which one can be slicked up easier than the other. I currently Deer hunt with my Henry Big boy, but I really would like to venture out with an 1860 clone and Tang sights, so which one can withstand the +p .45 Colt cartridge from Buffalo Bore? Any input would be appreciated!  ;)

BSD

very well then...the short and simple answer to your question is your current BIG BOY.

One can not really put the label BEST on something like this.

Best would the decision of each individual... as in best for him the rest is only opinion. Your reason and POV for +p is sound enough, by defalt then the Big Boy is best for you

I don't hunt, I do enjoy shooting period and even antiquated firearms.
In CAS, gaming is not my goal, if speed were my only goal, then I'd shoot the 73.
For me then, I find the 1860 Henry paired with a Richards conversion, my personal best, and suits me right down to the ground.

when planets align...do the deal !
