This massive bowie is a very formidable weapon, with loads of interest. The super blade is 11" x 2" x 3/16" clip pt. blade. The sharpened clip is in keeping with bowies of this early period. The blade is bright, uncleaned, with a small amount of salt and pepper dark coloration. The handle is a big piece of stag, with 2 carved rings behind the ferrule. The brass ferrule is file- worked, with cutouts that look like tepees. The iron guard is a masterpiece of forge and file work. The original scabbard is still with this bowie which is a real plus. It is made of wood, and covered with red leather with belt loop. A real eyecatcher. C. 1840's.

Dang, I had a sports car once that didn't have that much metal in it...and there's enough leather in that sheath to have covered the seats, too.

I like it!

I am getting a quote from a friend of mine who makes knives to see what he'll charge (friend rate) to make this knife for me.....I love how that thing looks.

Fabulous find. I've never seen this one before, nor one quite like it, though it slightly resembles some Chevalier bowies. I'm taking it this one is American made? It doesn't look Sheffield.
